We will continue our support
Two long-standing donors to Dresden Frauenkirche report on their motivation, their objective and what they want for the future of the Frauenkirche.
The entire interview can be found here as a PDF file (in German).
What are the motives behind your support?
Anita Koch: I am simply fascinated by this church. It has a very special magic for me. Don’t ask me where that magic comes from – it is simply there. Apart from that I always liked the way the reconstruction concept was spurred on, with such motivation, and how the foundation drew up and implemented its aims. On one hand you can feel the passion; on the other hand they are extremely professional. You always feel you are very much in good hands as a donor, and that the money is going to a good cause. It's still like that today.
Many donors contributed money with the aim of supporting the reconstruction. You are helping the Frauenkirche even beyond that target. Why?
Anita Koch: Because I can see the point of it. Things can only retain their beauty if they are maintained and cared for. We will continue our support.
Heiko Günther: Good question. The reconstruction was a clear-cut affair in terms of time, building work, money, etc. Life in the Frauenkirche is an open-ended, exciting story, and work with young people should play a major role in it.
What do you wish for the Frauenkirche in future?
Anita Koch:That it can continue to convey its message to the outside world and that nothing ever happens to it again. That the people who work there or support the church never lose their enthusiasm, and that the many visitors treat it with respect and care.
Heiko Günther: A future with more and more young people – that would sort (almost) everything out.
