The "ensemble frauenkirche"

The Frauenkirche Ensemble sees itself as the musical accompaniment to the Frauenkirche choirs and as a musical ensemble in its own right. The Ensemble is characterised by its rendering of living music performed in the spirit of a historic music-making tradition adapted to modern instruments. When taking part in the manifold concert events, the Ensemble has at its disposal a core group of musicians from Dresden’s two top orchestras – the Sächsische Staatskapelle and the Dresdner Philharmonie.

The core of the ensemble is made up of a simple string section plus wind instruments, which can be built on as needed. Its performances include concerts and Sacred Sunday Music in the Frauenkirche and cantatas sung as part of Sunday church services. The Ensemble also makes guest appearances.

Recordings

A number of different radio and television broadcasts and CD recordings document the activities of the Frauenkirche Ensemble. Two recordings (CDs?) are currently available; in the 2015 Jubilee Year there will be a further live recording of a performance of Johann Sebastian Bach’s Mass in B Minor in the Frauenkirche.
