Musical Discoveries for Children and Young People

Many programmes offered by the Frauenkirche aim at stimulating the interest and enthusiasm of young audiences for classical music. These are targeted at specific age groups and invite young audiences to join with others in discovering the fascinating world of music.

Two family concerts are designed for children aged five and over to give them their first taste of church music. The programme entitled The Musical Class Room is directed at those in primary school. Concert and discussion sessions are designed for young people in the age group 14-18 (German school grades 8-12).

The Musical Classroom

This programme is aimed at children in Grade 3 (aged approx. 8-9) and is a joint project organised by the Frauenkirche Dresden Foundation and Dresden School Concerts. In the Frauenkirche lower church, young listeners meet together with musicians who each introduce a specific instrument.

(For instructional reasons, attendance at this programme is restricted to participants from the respective school classes).

Concert and Discussion for Young People

The concert and discussion series is designed by the Frauenkirche for students aged approximately 14 – 18 and aims to pass on the manifold message of church music to the next generation. The programmes place a conscious emphasis on communication and are intended to awaken the curiosity of young people for themes which are not usually high on their agendas and to show how timeless and relevant the texts are and how powerful and emotional compositions can sound.
