Peace work
Everyone entering the Frauenkirche is warmly invited to take in the church’s message of reconciliation and return to everyday life feeling more peaceable.
Every weekday the Peace Bell rings for midday prayer, sounding an invitation to spend time in the church. Inside the Frauenkirche visitors are invited to light a prayer candle and pray for peace. The message of reconciliation emerges particularly clearly on 13 February, the day Dresden was destroyed in 1945.
In 2010 a series of speeches by Nobel Peace Laureates began, another step on the path to peace. Lectures in the Forum Frauenkirche view current peace issues from various angles, while the Frauenkirche choirs and ensemble see themselves as musical ambassadors. One matter of particular interest is the Frauenkirche’s youth work, which takes the form of guided tours and the Peace Academy EVA, founded in 2008.
The Commissioner for Peace for the Lutheran Church in Saxony raises awareness of the Christian mission of peace and reconciliation and supports Dresden Frauenkirche in its work.
