Services
On Sundays two services are celebrated. The morning service begins at 11 a.m. and the evening service at 6 p.m. The morning service predominantly features choral music and the evening service instrumental church music. A series of homilies, which cover a common theme, link The services at 6 p.m. over several weeks. On every month’s third Sunday the 6 p.m. service is celebrated as an Anglican evensong in English language.
Information series of homilies
Special services and offerings which take place yearly include: the ‘Night of Silence’ on 13 February, the ‘Night of Lights’ following the Taizé liturgy, services for mourners and services to distribute the Light of Peace from Bethlehem. The Frauenkirche Dresden Foundation in cooperation with the Society to Promote the Rebuilding of the Frauenkirche Dresden organises an open-air Whitsun service at the Neumarkt where also Christmas Vesper are held, also hosted by this Society.
Devotions and Vespers (with guided tours)
The Frauenkirche peace bell rings daily at 12 noon sounding an invitation to pause for a moment and pray for peace. On workdays, it announces daily devotions accompanied by organ music. This is a fixture in the Frauenkirche calendar, and offers twenty minutes of peace of mind through words and music. In addition, a similar offer is provided on several days during the week at 6 p.m. On each occasion right after the devotions, visitors are welcome to join guided tours and listen to explanations of the architecture, past and present of the Frauenkirche given by experienced guides talking from the pulpit.
Ecumenical Evening Prayer
Following the tradition of praying for peace that was started during reconstruction of the Frauenkirche, groups of different Christian churches in Dresden organise an ecumenical evening prayer every Thursday in the Lower Church.
