Chamber choir of the Frauenkirche
The chamber choir of the Frauenkirche was brought to life by Matthias Grünert, the choir master of the Frauenkirche, in January 2005. It consists of 30 professional and semi-professional male and female singers. Under the leadership of the choir master they are dedicated above all to the works of a cappella literature and 17- and 18-century oratorios.
The chamber choir made its first public appearance in the Lower Church of the Frauenkirche during Passion Week of 2005 with an concert. Since then, the main tasks are musical accompaniment of services, spiritual music on Sundays, concerts and further events in the Frauenkirche. Furthermore, the choir also acts as an ambassador of sacred music in the Frauenkirche during concerts outside of Dresden. It undertook a concert trip to the Alsace (2005), to Japan (2006) and Italy (2008). 2010 the choir was on tour in Great Britain and performed in the Coventry Cathedral.
In addition to regular rehearsals, all choir members receive voice training lessons from prominent Dresden alto soprano Ulrike Zech. The repertoire of the young ensemble comprises above all the works of Johann Sebastian Bach (Christmas Oratorio, St. John Passion, B Minor Mass, Cantatas BWV 1, 65, 62, 110, 79, 137, inter alia, Motet No. 3 in E minor, BWV 227 ‘Jesu, meine Freude’), Rossini’s Petite Messe Solenelle, cantatas by A.
