Technology
Several technological issues had to be settled in line with the guiding principles that the church should be restored using both the original historical materials as well as today's theories and methods of structural engineering and physics well along with sophisticated equipment.
In the run-up to the project, the statics of the old Frauenkirche had to be critically integrated in the construction plans. 13,000 m³ of sandstone had to be laid during the building work and highest demands on the masonry met. Repeated surveys and checks were necessary. Scaffolding of a type no longer used on modern building sites had to be designed and built. Finally, a canopy was to span the entire building site so that this was largely independent of the weather.
