ensemble frauenkirche dresden

They are all masters of their subject, distinguished members of two traditional orchestras - the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden and the Dresden Philharmonic: the musicians of the Ensemble of the Dresden Frauenkirche. Exquisite and varied, lively and stylish, they have been presenting great masterpieces and hidden gems from 400 years of music history under the direction of Frauenkirche cantor Matthias Grünert for over 15 years.

The ensemble has developed special expertise thanks to its historically informed performance practice for the works of Johann Sebastian Bach. The orchestra also focuses on works by composers with a connection to Dresden and the Frauenkirche.

Numerous performances at this special place as well as concert tours, CD recordings and participation in television worship services have made the ensemble known to a national audience.
